In our meeting with UP on June 4, 2002 with Ike Evans and Dennis Duffy a concern was expressed about a disparity of discipline regarding discipline issued to remote operators vs regular locomotive engineers. Believe it or not, the answer given for not pursuing any discipline against the RCO responsible for running off the end of track and burying the locomotive was “He didn’t know exactly how much tonnage he was pulling”. How may times have locomotive engineers operating normally, pulled a yard track safely and expeditiously without knowing how much tonnage he was pulling? Talk about a double standard. Check out the photos for yourself.
