Since

Dear Brothers and Sisters: January
25, 2002
As you are aware, current
extraordinary issues are developing in the rail industry that will directly affect
our craft as Locomotive Engineers. In
light of those developments, the Union Pacific BLE General Chairmen met on
January 23rd, 24th and 25th, 2002 to review
and discuss these pressing issues with the following results:
· Remote Control Technology – We the
undersigned are committed to protecting the interests of ALL
operating craft employees with regard to the introduction of this new
technology into our industry.
· Single Craft – We the undersigned are
committed to protecting the traditional crafts that have existed for over 100
years in the rail industry. The agenda
of a select few cannot be allowed to infringe upon the clearly mandated will of
the majority.
· Contract Negotiations – We the undersigned
are committed to press forward with Union Pacific regarding resolution of our
Section 6 Notices concerning on property agreement issues.
We agreed to band together
in unwavering solidarity as a first step to effectively address the above matters. While clearly autonomous as a craft and
Organization, we share common concerns with our Brothers and Sisters of the
separate operating crafts and stand in opposition to any effort that seeks to
eliminate the same.
The time has come for each
of us to take a stand for that which is not free, nor guaranteed. We are committed to protecting the employees,
their crafts and their families. During
our discussion
on these issues one fact became crystal clear.
With the support and direct participation of the BLE Membership, we
stand empowered in the face of this adversity.
This statement declares our solidarity and commitment to you and we ask
that each of you renew your commitment to our Brotherhood in preparation for
the challenges ahead. Stand ready and prepare
yourself to unite with one voice. In
solidarity we remain.
